New Magic Coming to Walt Disney World: The Complete Guide!

Holy cow!! Now More Than Ever (the new theme for 2019), it is literally such an amazing time to be a Walt Disney World fan! There are so many new things to look forward to in 2019 and beyond, it’s hard to contain the energy and excitement for all of it!! The next few years we are going to see enormous change happening across all of the parks, so buckle your seatbelt, it’s going to be an amazing ride!

Here’s a list of everything happening!

Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration: This new celebration will honor those true originals, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, with new entertainment, merchandise and specialty food and beverages. Mickey & Minnie will greet guests together inside Town Square, and there will even be a guestbook for Guests to sign.
Dates: January 18 – September 30, 2019

Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party!: This street party replaced Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! street party. The newer version sounds almost like the same thing, but with new music, characters, and dance routines. An all-new song, “It’s a Good Time,” will play several times daily as part of the new parade. Join in the fun with all of your beloved friends including Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and many others.
Dates: January 18, 2019 – September 30, 2019

Tron Lightcycle Attraction: This new roller coaster scheduled to open in time to celebrate Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary is going to be a huge addition to the Magic Kingdom. It will be located in Tomorrowland between Space Mountain and the Tomorrowland Speedway. This attraction is a super huge hit in Shanghai Disneyland, so we are super excited to have it here at Walt Disney World. Construction has begun on this project.
Dates: Scheduled to open in 2021

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Part (All-New Halloween Festivities): This year Disney has announced a NEW fireworks spectacular, new overlays on attractions, and more at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! Click here for my Complete Guide to this event!
Dates: August 16 – November 1, 2019

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (All-New Christmas Festivities): This year Disney has announced a NEW fireworks spectacular, the return of Tony’s Most Merriest Party and more at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! Click here for my Complete Guide to this event!
Dates: November 8 – December 22, 2019

Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971, so 2021 marks the 50th Anniversary! And all four parks are getting in on the action! This will be one of Disney’s biggest celebrations ever!
Dates: Starting in 2021


The park will be unified with four neighborhoods that each celebrate a unique aspect of what makes Epcot so special. Where Future World currently stands, three new neighborhoods will spring up: World CelebrationWorld Discovery and World Nature. And World Showcase will continue to celebrate culture, cuisine, architecture and traditions from around the world.


Spaceship Earth: This beautiful icon will remain, but the journey will be transformed with new scenes reflecting the universal nature of the human experience. A new guide and all new narration will focus on the storytelling that brings people together.
Dates: Scheduled to close early 2020 for 2 years

Dreamers Point: This will feature beautiful lush gardens, a wishing tree, an interactive new fountain and a new statue celebrating the legacy of the original dreamer, Walt Disney.

New Pavilion: This will be the home base for Epcot’s signature festivals, providing a stunning view of World Showcase and an ideal spot to witness the park’s nighttime spectacular. This three level structure will have a Plaza Level, a Mid Expo Level and a park up on top to view all of the park and the new nighttime fireworks show.

New Pavilion


Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind: This roller coaster is currently being constructed where the Universe of Energy stood for over 20 years. It is ginormous! The building is so massive, it could house four Spaceship Earth attractions inside of it! This is going to be something unlike anything we’ve ever seen. This will be one of the first “storytelling coaster” connecting the adventure of a storyline with the thrills of a coaster and will feature the first reverse launch into space! Guests will be fully immersed in the story.

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind

Space 220: This new space restaurant, operated and owned by Patina, will be located between Mission Space and Test Track. It will seat more than 350 Guests that will enter the restaurant via space themed elevators. This new restaurant will make Guests feel like they are actually traveling through space using a 250-ft long digital screen wrapping around the dining room simulating outer space.

Space 220 Restaurant

Play Pavilion: The pavilion will be themed around the power of PLAY. This new space will be devoted to playful fun and feature an innovative city that will come to life under the domed building previously known as Wonders of Life. The pavilion’s city will be extremely immersive and bursting with interactive experiences where you can explore, create, and interact with some of your favorite Disney characters, enjoy hands-on activities and engaging entertainment. There will be a unique interactive game with Edna Mode and Huey, Dewey and Louie, just to name a few!

All-New Play Pavilion Coming to Epcot in 2021


Awesome Planet: An all-new show is coming to The Land Pavilion replacing the long running Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure: This new attraction will be located in the France Pavilion and is currently under construction. You can see much of the construction from the walkway between the BoardWalk and the International Gateway entrance into Epcot. This is a dark ride shrinking you down to the size of a rat taking you on a grand adventure.
Dates: Scheduled to open Summer 2020

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Construction Update: May 7, 2019

Epcot Forever: With Illuminations ending in Summer 2019, a new nighttime spectacular is on its way… But before that new show debuts, there will be a limited-time experience called Epcot Forever, which feature classic Epcot tunes. Epcot Forever will begin with a spark of imagination that swells into an epic spectacle of fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and special effects kites.
Dates: October 1, 2019

lluminations: Reflections of Earth Ending: It was announced earlier this year that after a 20 year run (Opening date: October 1, 1999), Illuminations: Reflections of Earth will be ending. This is a fan favorite and heart-wrenching for many, but I have no doubt that the replacement will be bigger and better than ever! I’m hoping it stays true to the meaning and spirit of Epcot! Whatever Disney does I’m sure will be spectacular!!

HarmonioUS: This new nighttime spectacular will celebrate how Disney music inspires people around the world, and will feature massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers. This will be the permanent nighttime show at Epcot once it debuts.
Dates: Sometime in 2020

Mary Poppins Attraction: An all-new attraction inspired by Mary Poppin’s Cherry Tree Lane will join the UK Pavilion as an entirely new neighborhood.

Beauty and the Beast Sing-A-Long: A new guest offering will soon debut at the France pavilion at World Showcase (in addition to “Impressions de France”) – a brand new “Beauty and the Beast” sing-along created by Don Hahn, producer of the animated and live-action “Beauty and the Beast” films.

Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360: Imagineers are currently updating the long running O Canada film in the Canada Pavilion.

Wondrous China: An all-new circle vision presentation in 360 degree digital format coming to the China Pavilion.

Takumi-Tei Restaurant: A all-new signature dining experience coming to the Japan Pavilion.

Authentic Crêperie Restaurant: An all-new Table Service and Quick Service dining experience coming to the France Pavilion.
Dates: Summer 2020

Regal Eagle Smokehouse Restaurant: All-new BBQ and Craft Beer restaurant coming to the American Pavilion, taking place of the Liberty Inn. For all menu options, click here.

Incredibles come to Pixar: The entire area will be transformed into Metroville, the world of The Incredibles. There will be a dance party, a meet and greet with Edna Mode, photo ops, and more!

Mike & Sully Meet and Greet: Meet your favorite characters from Monsters, Inc.
Dates: Ongoing

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy: This all-new attraction is located near/next to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Lightning demonstrates what he’s learned over the years by using his brand-new, state-of-the-art racing simulator and its wraparound screen. After the show, you’ll even have the chance to snap a photo with trainer-turned-racer Cruz Ramirez just outside the Academy.
Dates: Opened on March 31, 2019

Scheduled to open in 2020 at Hollywood Studios

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway: This all-new attraction is being constructed within the former Great Movie Ride building. It will bring a two-dimensional cartoon into a real-world experience. The first-ever ride-through attraction themed to Mickey Mouse will have an original story and theme song as it takes guests on a journey through the Disney Channel’s “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts.
Dates: Opening March 4, 2020

Mickey Short Theater: The previous American Idol building (next to the Chinese Theater) will become a Mickey shorts theater showing a series of classic Mickey cartoons and short animated features.
Dates: Scheduled to open March 2020

“Wonderful World of Animation” Show: This new show debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as part of the park’s 30th anniversary celebration in May. The show uses state-of-the-art projection technology to take guests on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation, all beginning with Mickey himself. This is not a replacement for Fantasmic. Both shows will run, some nights simultaneously, so you’ll need to choose one or the other.

Woody’s Roundup Rodeo BBQ Restaurant – New Table Service dining coming to Toy Story Land! This new restaurant will be themed to a backyard barbecue with Andy and his toys inviting guests to participate in fun.
Dates: Summer 2020

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run: Guests can take the controls in one of three unique and critical roles aboard the falcon (pilot, gunner or engineer) to steer the ship to safety. Read all you need to know here!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Rise of the Resistance: Guests can join an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance – including a face-off with Kylo Ren himself! Read all you need to know here!
Dates: Opened December 5, 2019 in Walt Disney World and January 17, 2020 in Disneyland

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Oga’s Cantina Restaurant/Bar: Oga’s Cantina is famous for its concoctions — which will be available with choices for kids and adults both — that feature “exotic ingredients using otherworldly methods, served in unique vessels.” The menu will includes themed cocktails, non-alcoholic specialty drinks (mocktails) and “proprietary beer and wine options”.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge


Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party: A family-friendly event featuring music, dance, games and some of your favorite Disney friends—including Timon and Rafiki. Daily on the Discovery Island stage.

Tree of Life “Lion King” Projection Show
Starting Memorial Day Weekend and appearing nightly through September 30, new projections on the Tree of Life will feature music and animation paying tribute to the classic film.

“Rivers of Light – We are One”: Starting Memorial Day Weekend an all-new updated version of Rivers of Light will begin.

All-New Holiday Offerings: This year for the very first time, Animal Kingdom will join in the Holiday fun and immerse Guests in an all-new display of holiday cheer! Read more here for all of the details!

Disney’s Riviera Resort: This proposed 15th Disney Vacation Club property is inspired by the European grandeur Walt Disney experienced in his travels along Europe’s Mediterranean coastline. Disney Vacation Club Members and other guests will have a great view of fireworks spectaculars and easy access to the Disney Skyliner, which will have a station at the resort.
Dates: Opened December 15, 2019

Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort: The centerpiece of this expansion is a new 15-story tower, which you can see in the rendering above. It will add 545 guest rooms (including 50 suites!) to the resort. The tower will be the new main entry point when visiting the resort. The rest of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is being refreshed, as well. All 1,800-plus existing rooms have been fully updated with new fixtures, furnishings and lighting. “Villa Del Lago” the hotels new restaurant will be located on an island in the middle of the resort’s 14-acre lake, Lago Dorado.

Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge: A new nature-themed resort which will be located on Bay Lake between the Wilderness Lodge and the Campgrounds. This will be a deluxe resort, and will include more than 900 hotel rooms and proposed Disney Vacation Club Villas.
Dates: Scheduled to open sometime in 2022

Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser

Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser: This resort will be seamlessly connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios. It will be the first of its kind, a fully immersive hotel making Guests feel like they are part of the Star Wars story. Families visiting this destination will board a starship for a 2-night adventure that comes alive with characters and stories that unfold all around them during their voyage through the galaxy – and every cabin window has views of space! Guests visiting the multi-day adventure will also be welcome to participate as a resident of the Galaxy by dressing in Star Wars-inspired attire.
Dates: 2021 (Reservations open late 2020)


Disney Skyliner: This new gondola system will connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four resort hotels- Art of Animation Resort, Pop Century Resort and Caribbean Beach Resort as well as the upcoming new DVC property, Riviera Resort.
Dates: Opened September 29, 2019


City Works Eatery and Pour House: An exciting new dining option will soon open serving craft beers and American food. There will be 80 beers on tap from local breweries as well as from around the world. If beer isn’t your cup of tea, there will be a curated selection of wines just for you!Appealing to those who love sports, there will be multiple high-def TVs all over, as well as a 165-inch tv perfect for the game of the night or week!
Dates: Opened February 6, 2020!
