Upgrading Theme Park Tickets – Your Questions Answered

When planning your Walt Disney World vacation, one of the first questions you will ask yourself is what type of tickets make the best sense for your trip. There are several factors that will go into this answer. Evaluate how many days you plan on visiting the parks (including water parks). What is your budget? Do you plan to park hop? The answers to these questions will guide you on the best type of ticket to ultimately purchase.

But what happens if your park plans change and you decide later you want to upgrade your ticket, (or sometimes downgrade)? Maybe you purchased a standard base ticket and want to upgrade to a Park Hopper? Or maybe you booked a second trip within the year and you realize you’ll get more value from an Annual Pass? Can you upgrade your current ticket? The answer is yes!

Read the following FAQs on upgrading (or downgrading) tickets for all you need to know!

CAN THEME PARK TICKETS BE UPGRADED?

Can park tickets be upgraded (or sometimes downgraded) once you’ve purchased them? The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES!!

If your vacation plans change, you can add days to your ticket or subtract days from your ticket as needed. The pricing structure is set up so the longer the length of the ticket you buy, the lower the per day cost of each day becomes.

Keep in mind theme park tickets are purchased based on date(s) selected. Depending on the time of year you are vacationing, will depend on the cost per ticket/per day. With date-based pricing, you’ll essentially pay a per-day price that is an average of the prices for the days you select on the calendar. Any changes you make to your dates, whether upgrading or downgrading, can potentially impact your per-day pricing significantly.

It is worth noting, tickets are nonrefundable and may not be downgraded to a ticket with less entitlements.

WHAT ARE THE TICKET REQUIREMENTS TO UPGRADE?

If it is within 14 days of a theme park ticket’s first use, and the ticket has remaining admissions (this is important!), you are able to upgrade the ticket. If it is your last day and you have one remaining admission, be sure to upgrade at the Ticket Window before scanning your ticket and entering the park. Once you scan/enter, you will have no more remaining days left on your ticket and cannot upgrade. If it is more than 14 days after the first use or if no admissions remain, the ticket cannot be upgraded or modified.

WHAT ARE TICKET UPGRADE OPTIONS?

UPGRADE OPTIONS

  • Adding extra days

PARK HOPPER OPTION UPGRADE

A Disney theme park ticket with the Park Hopper option allows you admission to the four main theme parks for the amount of days on the ticket, PLUS the option to hop from one theme park to another within the same day (as many times and parks as you want).

THE PARK HOPPER PLUS OPTION UPGRADE

A Disney theme park ticket with Park Hopper Plus Option includes admission to the four main theme parks for the amount of days on the ticket, PLUS it includes the same number of visits to the following:

  • Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park
  • Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park
  • One round of golf at Disney’s Oak Trail golf course

PARK HOPPER & PARK HOPPER PLUS ADD-ON

If you are adding the PARK HOPPER or PARK HOPPER PLUS options, there is one thing you need to be aware of! Either of these add-ons may be added at any time — so if you get to day two of your trip and decide you want to be able to park hop, you can add it. But there is one big caveat you’ll want to be aware of – you will be charged the full rate of the add-on regardless of how many admissions remain on the ticket. They are priced per ticket, not per day. So you can’t just add the Park Hopper option for one day of your trip; you’ll pay to add it to the full length of stay, even if you’ve already used up some of your days.

CURRENT RATES:

Park Hopper Option, depending on number of days:

  • $65 per ticket for 1-day tickets
  • $75 per ticket for 2 to 3-day tickets
  • $85 per ticket for 4 to 10-day tickets

Park Hopper Plus Option, depending on the number of days:

  • $85 per ticket for 1-day tickets
  • $95 per ticket for 2 to 3-day tickets
  • $105 per ticket for 4 to 10-day tickets

WHERE CAN I UPGRADE MY TICKETS?

Tickets can be upgraded at the following locations:

  • Guest Relations
  • Walt Disney World Ticket Window
  • Resort Concierge

TICKETS PURCHASED BEFORE 2005

Tickets purchased before 2005 cannot be upgraded. So, while older tickets cannot be upgraded, if the ticket does not have an expiration date, it remains valid until all admissions are used.
